It's not "hard to be a god"!

Combine the elements to create the world!

Easy Godding is a light-hearted alchemy game similar to Doodle God and Little Alchemy. Can you find all the elements? From the foundations of all things to strange and complex inventions, explore a little metaphysics, or go up into space... let's make a few weird places too! Can you make a coral reef? A stargate? Or a Playdate? Perhaps you will discover the secret other Gods...

Want to try it out? Download the free demo! It contains 130 elements, which should give you hours of fun. For nothing! Consider coming back to buy the game if you liked the demo.

As of version 1.9, the full version contains 207 elements. Check back sometimes, or check your email for new drops!

NOTE: Originally made for the Yellow Square Jam.  The original jam version (v1.2) is also available below for archaeological reasons.

Please see the dev log for recent changes!

How to play

Conjure items from your ribbon and place them in the field.

Try to combine two elements together. If you're smart or lucky, you'll invent a new element! It will be added to the ribbon.

Get rid of elements by squeezing them using the crank. Squeeze them until they pop!

You can clear out the whole field from the menu. Just hit the menu button and find the "clear field" option. There's also an options menu allowing you to disable the music and the button tooltip, among other things.

Invent your world

As you discover new elements, your grimoire is updated with new ideas. Try to discover what combinations are needed for them. If you are stuck and need help, just use the crank to "have an idea!" This reveals element names and recipe ingredients. For free! You may use this an an exercise for your willpower. Use the B button to access the grimoire.

Some elements belong to a clade. A clade is a group of elements that are somehow related. You can view clades by cranking from the grimoire, or you can view them from the main menu. Other undiscovered elements in a clade will be revealed to you, but only in silhouette. Maybe it will give you some ideas!

Check out the options too - there are some nice features in there to make the game easier or look different. Get to the options using the playdate menu while in-game.

Don't forget to view the credits! You can see them from the main menu.

Got this on the Catalog, and it's great...but I can't seem to make Day, combining Light and Sky just makes Star

Oh, I'm really sorry about that! You're right - that's a duplicate. I'll fix it and issue an update asap. Thanks for letting me know.

No worries, thanks for making the game!

thanks

Congrats on being listed in the Play date catalog. Are you going to maintain the versions the same on each store?

Thanks! Yes, any updates will come to both stores.

yay!!

Hi there, I just bought and downloaded the game and I'm attempting to sideload it onto my Playdate (this is my first time trying this), and after extracting the .zip file I can't seem to find an actual .pdx file to drop onto the sideload screen. There's a folder called EasyGodding.pdx, but it's a folder and not an actual file. I'm sure the answer is very simple and I'm just not seein' it (I've been at this for about an hour now, haha), so here I am leaving a comment in the hopes of getting some help! Thanks for reading :)

Hey there!

You're right in that a "pdx" is just a folder with a .pdx extension. The sideload site expects a zipped pdx folder, though.

To sideload the game to your playdate you can either use the sideload site, where you upload the zip (not the pdx itself), then download it from settings. OR, you can plug your playdate in and put the unzipped pdx on the device yourself - navigate to the games folder and drop it in there. I don't have my playdate on me so I can't give you the exact folder names, but that's the gist of it - if sideloading via play.date then use the zipped pdx; if sideloading via usb use the unzipped pdx.

Let me know if you're still having trouble!

Ohhhh my goodness I am such a dumby-dumb-dumb. I saw "drag the zipped file" in the instructions and apparently tricked myself into thinking that meant to UNZIP the file. Good gravy! Thank you so much. What a brainfart ( ̄ヘ ̄;)

Glad you're up and running! Thanks for buying the game!!

No, thank you! I've been loving the game so far! The little animation of the hand swirling its fingers as it creates a new element brings me so much joy (*´ω`*)

you

Is there something I can help you with?

no

Okay. I hope that my game did not offend you, it was very much not my intention.

I love the game! However, the 1.8 update on play date is crashing and it shows as 1.7.2 at the side load.

I scrubbed the data of the game and the side load. I can't even open the game. :(

Somehow I missed this message completely, sunshine. I am so sorry. I will write a new version and upload it right now.

Okay, I uploaded version 1.8.1. Please let me know if you still have problems.

Will do. I snooped around. I would say the data file update from 1.7 to 1.8 is not parsing properly.

That is an unwanted tech advice. You can ignore :)

Always happy to hear it.  What you say is quite possible - I changed some of the data in there. The save data has a version number saved with it. If the version is greater, it's supposed to create a new save file, and copy over any new fields that exist now into the old save file. But I probably messed something up somewhere, or didn't update the save file version or something.

Feels like I have more power than the master hand from Smash Bros! Holy cow there are so many elements, it's crazy! Started off only expecting serious elements, but then some silly and interesting ones come into play. As others have mentioned, the crushing of an element with the crank feels very satisfying.

"Nice trees."

Love the idea of an alchemy game, the presentation is amazing! Also, discarding items with the crank feels real satisfying!
